The Bob and Ron Show Continues:

Liquid Quiker
Sets Another ET Record
And Wins Fort Worth

With only one weekend off between Augusta and the Fort Worth, Texas race there was a lot to be accomplished to turn the boat around and get the trailer and truck ready for the next trip. Ron spent a couple extra days in Tennessee to help Bob make sure everything got done.

Back on the road again Bob, Ron & Sue headed for Texas still on the high from setting the ET record and winning Augusta, Georgia two weeks ago. They arrive early Friday morning, ready to get the awning up, since Texas weather has promised a hot 100 degree weekend. The rest of the crew arrives by early afternoon to help finish setting up the pits. The crew then settles down to an early supper inside the air conditioned trailer and then back to the motel to enjoy as much of the air conditioners before the 2 days of the Texas heat.

The first round came early and the team was anxious to see if the boat would continue with the good consistent runs coming out of Augusta. The round was no disappointment. Ron drove the boat through the lights at 220.588mph in 4.84 seconds. That put the Liquid Quiker in the #1 qualifying position out of a six boat field. And to add to the excitement, Roger Monroe announces to the crowd that Liquid Quiker has just put a leg on a new SDBA ET record.

Back in the pits the crew got the boat ready for the round 2 in hopes of capturing another ET record and hanging on to their #1 qualifying position. 2nd round comes late in the day. The crew watches in high hopes as Ron starts the motor and waits for the clock to count down. The boat leaves the rope and makes a super pass capturing the ET record at 4.817 seconds going through the lights at 245.902mph, maintaining the #1 qualifying spot.

Not even the Texas heat could ruin the enthusiasm and excitement in the Liquid Quiker pits as the crew got ready for the 1st round of Sunday’s eliminations.

Sunday morning, the Liquid Quiker was paired up against Daryl Ehrlich driving the newest Top Fuel Hydro, Tequila Sunrise. The clocks started, Daryl struggles with the boat and Ron takes the win driving through the lights at 245.588mph in 4.842 seconds. Liquid Quiker has a bye run into the finals.

Bob and Ron elected to set out the bye run and save the fuel & motor for the final run. While checking the hardware under the boat they notice a crack in the strut. Since they didn’t have a spare strut, they located a local welder and had the repairs made in the pits. Thanks to our welder, Brain Lowe, the boat will be able to safely make the next pass.

The final round came at the end of the long hot day. The crowd had waited patiently in the Texas heat to see two Top fuel boats make the final pass. The Liquid Quiker team made its way to the in ramp, only to find out that the Hot Licks boat would not make the call due to the amount of damage done to the motor in the semi-final round. Not to disappoint the fans, Ron makes a full track pass at 4.918ET at 238.727mph. That gives the team its 2nd win of the season and a great way to end the day.

I don’t think the crew even noticed the heat as they packed up the pits after the final round. What a great accomplishment the team has made this year. Qualifying #1 in all three races, one 2nd place finish, two wins and two ET records. 2008 has definitely been the Liquid Quiker team’s year. This was truly a most enjoyable weekend so far this year.

As we look forward to the World finals race at Phoenix in November, it is with anticipation on what is in store for the final race of the season for the Liquid Quiker. We take no win for granted and as always with Top Fuel Hydro racing “It can be anybody’s day!

These accomplishments don’t come with out a lot of hard work and belief that this new outrigger hull is the top fuel boat of the future. Thanks to the entire team for their hard work, dedication and support.
