Winter Time

I’m sure you all wonder what Ron and Bob spend their winter months doing when there are no races to attend besides their real jobs and all the honey dues, so I have a few pictures that will give you an idea of what goes on.

After the last race the boat and motors get pulled out of the trailer. The motors are disassembled, parts are identified for repair or replacement, the boat gets a good cleaning and inspection for and damaged or missing parts. The driver seat gets new padding. Items are identified for recertification and shipped out. This year the rear sponsons were pulled off and sent to Vince at “Horizon Boat Repair” for refurbishment.

The entire trailer is pulled into the shop for the winter after a thorough cleaning and gets a hand wax job by Randal’s crew from EMC. The floor is cleaned and mopped, carpets are swept and the consumables are inventoried and restocked.

Steve spends his time rebuilding the motors, having the heads and crankshafts checked out and repaired and making his list of parts required for the up coming race season.

Then truck gets washed, cleaned out, winterized and stored under cover for the winter. The local birds have designated the truck as their preferred nesting grounds.

The W-drive is pulled out of the boat, disassembled; parts are inspected and replaced as needed. Then it is re-assembled and re-installed in the boat.

T-shirts and hats are inventoried; an order is placed for the next season. The golf cart motor gets rebuilt, since it broke in Phoenix.

Ron makes 2 trips south to help out and takes the truck back to Canada for maintenance and inspection on the 2nd trip. Rick & Rexy make the trip with him to help Steve assemble the motors. Randal brings 2- 55 gallon drums of alcohol that will be also needed for the next season.

The first race for 2009 is quickly approaching, motel reservations and plane flights have been made as the Bob & Ron Show continues for the season opener in Oklahoma City.
